The spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce answered reporters' questions on adjusting anti discrimination measures against Canada
A reporter asked: We have noticed that Canada has recently adjusted its tariff measures on Chinese steel and aluminum products, and the Ministry of Commerce has also issued a notice to adjust its anti discrimination measures against Canada. Can you introduce the relevant situation?
Answer: According to the relevant provisions of the Foreign Trade Law of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of Commerce launched an anti discrimination investigation into Canada's restrictive measures against China on September 26, 2024, and issued a ruling announcement on March 8, 2025, announcing the adoption of anti discrimination measures by imposing tariffs on Canada.
In order to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, China and Canada have made specific arrangements to properly resolve economic and trade issues in areas such as electric vehicles, steel and aluminum products, and agricultural and aquatic products. Recently, the Canadian government officially announced partial adjustments to the tariff measures imposed on Chinese steel and aluminum products. This is in line with China's adjustment of anti discrimination measures. China has decided not to impose anti discrimination tariffs on some imported goods originating in Canada from March 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026, and officially announced the corresponding adjustment of anti discrimination measures against Canada on February 27, 2026 in accordance with the law.
China is willing to work with Canada to continue to follow the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and promote the healthy, stable, and sustainable development of China Canada economic and trade relations.
