The first batch of exhibits from the Ancient Egypt exhibition at the Nanyue King Museum has arrived in Guangzhou

On January 28th, the first batch of 167 cultural relics (sets) from the "Gift of the Nile River - Ancient Egyptian Cultural Relics and Digital Art Experience Exhibition" arrived at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport from the UK. After completing customs clearance procedures, it will be quickly transported to the Southern Yue King Museum (Wang Tomb Exhibition Area) and enter the exhibition stage.

The exhibits on display this time are cultural relics from the collection of the University of Aberdeen Museum in the UK, of which about 95% are first-time visitors to China. The first batch of visitors include mummified humans, mummified cats, and mummified crocodiles. Thanks to the policy assistance of customs, the above-mentioned exhibits have received a tax reduction guarantee of over 8.58 million yuan, effectively reducing the financial turnover pressure of the exhibition party. "Shi Mingli, the head of the Exhibition Department of the Nanyue King Museum, said that 13 sets of exhibits will be delivered to Guangzhou in the future.

It is reported that the "Gift of the Nile River - Ancient Egyptian Cultural Relics and Digital Art Experience Exhibition" will open on February 6, 2026 at the Nanyue King Museum (King's Tomb Exhibition Area) and last until October 11, with an exhibition period of 8 months. This exhibition will showcase 180 precious cultural relics from ancient Egypt, including 3 complete sets of mummies and coffins, 3 fragments of the Book of the Dead, etc., comprehensively presenting the mystery and brilliance of ancient Egyptian civilization. It is worth noting that the exhibition also innovatively displays 26 sets of treasures unearthed from the tomb of the Nanyue King, including the "Silk Thread Jade Robe", achieving a cross temporal dialogue between ancient Egyptian civilization and Lingnan culture.

To support the smooth holding of cultural exhibitions, the Guangzhou Convention and Exhibition Center Customs under Guangzhou Customs relies on the "Smart Exhibition" information system to achieve online processing of exhibition registration, customs declaration and other business. Innovate the regulatory model of "one-time filing, batch inspection and release" to accurately match the needs of "staged exhibition" of exhibits. Considering the high environmental requirements for temperature, humidity, and shock resistance of exhibited cultural relics, the Guangzhou Convention and Exhibition Center Customs strictly checks the packaging specifications and environmental parameters against the cultural relics protection standards, meticulously inspects the preservation status of cultural relics, exhibition temperature and humidity, and security measures, to safeguard the "cultural treasures" crossing the ocean.
